I purchased the Prolong reconditioning kit and additional harnesses a few years ago. We have three second generation Prius’ and perform the reconditioning process as part of routine maintenance. Our vehicles, two 2007’s and one 2008, still perform like new routinely averaging well over 40 mpg. I would highly recommend this product to anyone thinking about replacing their hybrid battery. This has proven to be a far better investment than replacing a weak, but perfectly serviceable, hybrid battery pack. Be advised – the complete reconditioning process will take approximately 2 full days. During the reconditioning the hybrid batteries cooling fan is on and will run down your 12 volt battery. Be prepared to recharge your 12 volt battery when done. Quick tip – Make sure all windows are up, all doors are unlocked and place a shop towel over the rear hatch lock mechanism too avoid getting locked out of the rear cargo area. The 12 volt battery can easily be recharged under the hood via the fuse panel on the drivers side of the engine compartment. This is the same place you would jump start the car from.

I purchased the Prolong Deluxe Reconditioning package 4 years ago for our 2007 Prius. Installation of the wiring harness took a little time. If you are not comfortable doing that yourself have your mechanic do it for you. I also installed a cable on the AGM 12V battery so that it was easy to plug into a 12V battery maintainer/charger (like during reconditioning). The full preconditioning process does take 2 days so plan accordingly. When we first got the Prius our mileage was in the low 50s. Over 11 years is had dropped into the low 40s. After the first reconditioning we were in the high 40s to low 50s. Now I do the reconditioning about once a year.
